I'm home 😂 sausage and bacon from the farm shop, eggs from our neighbours, organic wholemeal toast, mushrooms and tomatoes fried in butter and olive oil 🥰

Quick trip to Shake Stand in Daitabashi the other night. A friend had promised me sake and, while there, we realised it was our 6th anniversary as it were! We're understandably fairly at home with one another and what better place to celebrate that kind of friendship than in such a cosy place? Ham and eggs were a regular order here, and Japanese cafeteria classics like ginger pork and croquettes. The place is famous for its salmon curry and is the sister store of the delicious salmon-themed Shake Kojima, just round the corner.

Ali-Bab Cantine, in between Roppongi Ichome and Tameike Sanno, hasn't changed its lunch menu in 10 years - according to the owner. For the very reasonable price of 1290 yen, you can choose one starter, one main, along with the dessert of the day and coffee and cannelé. We began with a competent pea potage, followed by the grilled pork, which was a little oily if satisfying. However, that was trumped by the beef ragout (+300 yen). Only problem was the Alsace spaetzles, which amounted to bland pasta made tolerable by salt and copious mustard 😈 Can I just say though that the crème brulée was a total dreamboat flirting with the cinnamon? 😍 Would definitely visit again as I feel like some gems could be discovered depending on the order and the day.

Finally visited Kurokan, a really cute place, tucked away near Meidaimae station. Simple but satisfying otsumami and dishes. Spicy anchovy edamame yes 🔥 Stewed chicken and salad also great - healthy and tasty whoop. They specialise in Yamagata sake and I found the line-up a little sweet (the flavour profiles didn't seem to match the taste) but enjoyed Sanjurokuninshu!(三十六人衆).
